Sir David Humphery Burnett, MBE, TD, FLS, 3rd Baronet, one of HM
Lieutenants of the City of London, a one-time member of the Port of
London Authority, and Chairman of the proprietors of Hay's Wharf
Ltd., died at his home, 19 May, 2002, aged 84.

Sir David, of Tandridge Hall, near Oxted, Surrey, & Twizel Millhouse,
Cornhill-on-Tweed, Northumberland, was a partner in David Burnett &
Son, Chartered Surveyors, 1947-50; Director: Proprietors of Hay's
Wharf Ltd, 1950-80 (Chairman 1965-80); Guardian Royal Exchange
Assurance, 1967-88.

He was Chairman of South London Botanical Institute, 1976-81
(President 1985); London Association of Public Wharfingers, 1964-71.
He was a Member, Port of London Authority, 1962-75; Member of the
Council of Brighton College, 1971-93.

Master: Conmpany of Watermen and Lightermen of the River Thames, 1964;
Girdlers Co., 1970. FRICS, 1970. (ARICS 1948); FIMgt (FBIM 1968); FLS,
1979.

He was born 27 January, 1918, the elder son of Sir Leslie Trew
Burnett, 2nd Baronet, (1884-1955), by his wife Joan, daughter of
Lt-Col Sir John Humphery, (1872-1938), a Sheriff & Alderman of London.

He succeeded to the baronetcy on the death of his father, 17 July,
1955.
The title had been awarded in 1913 to his grandfather, Sir David
Burnett, (1851-1930), Lord Mayor of London, 1912-13 (in which year he
aquired the Crystal Palace for the nation).

The third Baronet married, 21 July, 1948, Geraldine Elizabeth Mortimer
(Betty), younger daughter of Sir Godfrey Arthur Fisher, KCMG,
(1885-1969), sometime Consul-General at San Francisco, by whom he had
three sons, Robert, Charles & John.

He is succeeded in the baronetcy by his eldest surviving son, Charles
David (b. 18 May, 1951).

The funeral service takes place at St Peter's Church, Tandridge,
Monday 27 May, 2002, at 2.30 p.m.
