Helena Paz Garro, the daughter of famous Mexican literary couple Octavio Paz and Elena Garro has passed away at 74 in her home in Cuernavaca. Her first cousin, Jesus Garro Velasquez confirmed the news this morning. Paz Garro's body has been taken to a well-known funeral home in the capital of the state of Morelos, where her funeral was held. According to Garro Velasquez, her remains will be buried next to those of her mother, the author of "Recuerdos Del Porvenir."

The death of Paz Garrro comes just one day before the country was to celebrate the centenary of her father Octavio Paz' birth. Octavio Paz has been the subject of a number of tributes in recent days, in which a large part of Mexico's cultural figures and international intellectual figures have taken part. Mexico's President Enrique Peña Nieto responded to Paz Garro's death via Twitter: "I am saddened by the passing of Helena Paz Garro. My deepest condolences with her family and friends."

In a February interview with "Quien," Helena Garro spoke of the distance she felt from her father Octavio Paz following the events of 1968 in Tlatelolco when she and her mother were accused of orchestrating the student movement. Pas Garro published a letter criticizing her father, how years later she accused of abandonment - however, she admitted that she was able to forgive her father. "I loved him very much, " she said, "I have learnt to forgive him."
