Margo Johns

Sept 29, aged 90. British actress who starred in the B-movie cult
classic Konga (1961), a spoof of King Kong (1932) set in London rather
than New York. "Not since King Kong," said Variety, "has the screen
thundered to such mighty excitement." Began her career in revues, and
appeared as the leading lady in various repertory companies before
returning to the West End in Queen Elizabeth Slept Here (Strand), and
Tea and Sympathy (Comedy). In 1951 took over the role of the Beauty in
Peter Ustinov's The Love of Four Colonels at Wyndhams, and in the same
year married the actor William Franklyn. Made a number of films,
including Murder at the Windmill (1949). Television credits included
Dixon of Dock Green, Emergency Ward 10, The Saint and Yes, Minister.
In later years she ran a successful antiques business. Mother of the
actress Sabina Franklyn.

Konga was pretty bad, all right, but I don't recall that it was a
"spoof."

BTW, the ape suit they used belonged to George Barrows, who played
Robot Monster. I don't know if it was the same ape suit, though.
