Ringi said: "The picture book has one big advantage [when] compared to
the painting, it can be seen by many more people.......
"I think children's books can mean a lot in a person's life. [I
remember] the picture books I read as a child . . . better than books
I read two weeks ago. . . . I use, in my books and television films,
just a few or no words to get the children to see as many things as
possible in the pictures. If the parents who buy my books are also
amused while looking through them with their children, I think I have
succeeded. I am happy if I can give a human message through my books.
I don't want to do it with grand airs or mastering manners--just with
a discreet tap on the shoulder. As a matter of fact, I am a little
bashful with children and, therefore, I am glad and grateful to be
able to speak to them through my books."
