Arturo Rafael Vedire, commercial artist in Buenos Aires and Chicago,
Illinois, for more than 35 years, died of a stroke Friday, November 8,
in Wealshire nursing home in Lincolnshire, Illinois, at the age of 95.
Mr. Vedire was born to Italian immigrants in Buenos Aires and moved to
Italy with his parents for about five years before returning to his
homeland around age 7. At his father's urging, Mr. Vedire began studying
medicine in college. But he had another passion, and he eventually
received his bachelor's degree in art from the University of Buenos
Aires, said his daughter, Nelida Osimani.
Mr. Vedire taught art in a Buenos Aires high school and was active in
the city's art community. He restored famous artworks and designed
extravagant jewelry for a Buenos Aires store. Mr. Vedire opened the
Duplex advertising agency and ran it for more than 20 years.
In 1957, he moved to Chicago and began working for an advertising
studio. Mr. Vedire, who lived in Park Ridge for many years, later opened
Arturo Studios on Wabash Avenue in Chicago. He created advertisements
for major department stores including Marshall Field's, Carson Pirie
Scott and Sears, Osimani said. Mr. Vedire retired in his 80s, after
being in business for 15 years. Osimani said her father was the "typical
artist," gregarious, liked to party and was very volatile.
