LOS ANGELES - Stanley Kamel, well known for playing Dr. Charles Kroger on
the hit series "Monk," has died, Access Hollywood has learned.

Kamel was found dead in his Hollywood Hills home on Tuesday. He was 65.

The cause of death was unknown.

Kamel has appeared in numerous TV roles over the past three decades,
including "The West Wing," "Six Feet Under," "Melrose Place," "The Golden
Girls," "Days of Our Lives" and "Murder One."

Pop culture fans will remember Kamel from his eight-episode arc in 1995 on
"Beverly Hills, 90210," as Tony Marchette, the father of Rebecca Gayheart's
character.

A rep for the USA network, which airs the Emmy-winning "Monk," released the
following statement to Access Hollywood:

"USA is deeply saddened by the news of Stanley Kamel's passing. Stanley was
an amazingly talented and extremely kind man, and an important member of the
USA family. He will be sorely missed."

STANLEY: It's absolutely positively untrue that there's anything wrong
with my health. I just got done working out for two hours in New York
and when I'm in Los Angeles I work out three days a week, (six hours a
week), with a personal trainer. Does that sound like I'm getting sick
to you? The only way I would ever leave the show is when they carry me
out on a stretcher. I appreciate your concern, but I truly assure you
that I wish everyone my age could be as healthy as I am. And I'll stay
on the show as long as they want me. I really appreciate your kind
words about my work on the show.

'Monk' psychiatrist actor Stanley Kamel dies at 65

LOS ANGELES

Stanley Kamel, who played Adrian Monk's long-suffering
psychiatrist on the TV detective show "Monk," has died.
He was 65.

Kamel was found dead of a heart attack in his Hollywood
Hills home on Tuesday by his agents, publicist Cynthia
Snyder said in a statement.

Kamel, born on Jan. 1, 1943, in New Brunswick, N.J., had
a nearly four-decade acting career, much of it on television.
He had a recurring role as an unscrupulous psychiatrist,
Dr. Graham Lester, in the 1995 television series "Murder One,"
and other recurring roles on "Days of Our Lives," "Melrose
Place" and "Beverly Hills 90210" as well as smaller roles on
many other shows.

Kamel began acting off-Broadway and got his first television
break playing Eric Peters on "Days of Our Lives" in the
1970s. He appeared in several movies.

For several years, he portrayed Dr. Charles Kroger on the USA
Network series "Monk." As Kroger, he dispensed advice
during weekly therapy sessions to Monk (Tony Shalhoub), a
brilliant but neurotic private detective with obsessive-compulsive
disorder.

"Stanley was an amazingly talented and extremely kind man,
and an important member of the USA family. He will be sorely

missed," the network said in a statement.

Kamel is survived by his brothers, Stephen and Robert.

He guest-starred in a memorably good first-season episode of "Star
Trek: The Next Generation" called "Where No One Has Gone Before". He
played Kosinski, an arrogant, conceited Starfleet propulsion expert.

I wonder if they will kill off his chaarcter as was done with Sgt
Esterhaus on Hil Street Blues and the VP in West Wing.

I haven't watched "Monk" in two or three years, but I remember Mr.
Kamel going on the Monkish discussion boards back then to say, firmly
and with some heat, that he wasn't ill (although he looked it, even
then) and that any talk of illness would unfairly cut his chances of
finding work, so everybody please stop already.
