Anybody got any info on his demise, specifically on whether or not it has
occurred?

Well, I just checked the movie database. The movie you were thinking
about was a 1969 film called "The First Time". ("Losin' It" was
actually a 1983 comedy with Tomy Cruise and Shelly Long). The actor's
name WAS Wes Stern (so you spelled it correctly), but alas, it doesn't
offer a biography or even the date of birth (or death), so I don't know
if he's alive or dead. It only lists one other movie for him, "Up In the
Cellar", which was made in 1970. He's also not listed in the World
Almanac as either alive or dead. Given the fact that he apparently
stopped making movies after 1970, I'd say he either gave up on show biz,
or else he died. Unfortunately, I can't tell you which.

In David Cassidy's autobio he writes about Wes and the spin is not positive.
Apparently Mr. Wes was a "star" and a putz.

I don't think Shelley played a prostitute in that one. I think she was
merely a frustrated housewife. LOSIN' IT also stars the cadaverous Jackie
Earle Haley, who probably has a future as a character actor in horror
films, if he can but live long enough.
The Wes Stern film sounds like THE LAST PROSTITUTE, the one they remade a
few years ago with Wil Wheaton and Sonja Braga.

Shelly wasn't a hooker in the movie. Tom Cruise starred as a kid heading
to Mexico with his rowdy friends, hoping to get lucky. Along the way,
they stop at a 7-11, where they see Shelly Long get into a fight with
her boyfriend (or husband, forgot which). She leaves him, and hitches a
ride with the kids. Once in Mexico, Shelly and Tom eventually end up
sleeping together (and no, she didn't do a nude scene for the film, just
undies), while the other kids get into assorted trouble with the locals.

On the other hand, Shelley Long did play a movie in the movie "Night
Shift" with Henry Winkler and Michael ("I'm Batman") Keaton.
