> Which twin was Roz
weensy
Yes, it is true. She played "Weensie" in the Tennessee Ernie Ford
episode where the Ricardo's are headed to CA. Her sister is still
alive.
Shackley, appeared on 'Lucy' show
Rosalyn Borden Shackley, part of the acting Borden twins, died
Thursday
in Modesto after a long bout with liver illness. She was 70.
Mrs. Shackley and her identical twin, Marilyn, had been in the
entertainment business since age 3, when they appeared on Ed Begley's
national
radio show, "The Kiddies Hour."
The Bordens were best-known for an appearance on the "I Love Lucy"
television series with guest star Tennessee Ernie Ford. They played
the
country star's hayseed heartthrobs, Teensy and Weensy, names that
played
off their size.
"But the writers made it more than just another fat joke," Marilyn
Borden Thiel told The Bee in June. "They made people out of us."
In the show, titled "Tennessee Bound," Teensy and Weensy's sheriff
father interrupts Lucy and Ricky's car trip out West, throwing them in
jail
until Ricky agrees to take the girls with him to Hollywood. Finally,
they settle for a dance.
Early reruns of the episode, No. 112 in the "I Love Lucy" series,"
eliminated the twins' song, "Ricochet Romance."
"Do you know how hard it is to purposely sing off-key?" Mrs. Shackley
said for last year's Bee article. She was happy to note that when the
Nickelodeon cable network picked up the show, the song went back in.
The twins formerly ran a cruise business, hosting voyages and
performing hourlong variety shows on board.
"Rosalyn had a love of life and laughter," Thiel recalled. "She will
be
missed by many."
The twins also worked with Jimmy Durante, Bob Newhart, Andy Williams,
Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. They appeared on dozens of TV shows from
the 1950s through the 1980s, including "Maude" and "CHiPs." They also
entertained American troops overseas.
Mrs. Shackley was born May 29, 1932, in Hartford, Conn. She and her
twin moved to Modesto from the Bay Area last year.
At the time of Mrs. Shackley's death, the twins were working on a book
and play about their life in show business.
Besides her twin, she is survived by her husband of 23 years, Darrell
Shackley; and sister, Barbara Borden of Mill Valley.
There will be no visitation or public services. Arrangements are under
the direction of the McHenry Chapel of Franklin & Downs.
