Michael Cesar, the self-proclaimed pope of pot, died Tuesday.
The 52-year old marijuana entrepreneur at one time operated
a pot-delivery service from an office in the shadow of the
Manhattan Criminal Court.
Busted after announcing his toll-free number -- (800) WANT
POT -- on the Howard Stern show -- Cesar served two jail
terms for drug dealing. He came down with liver cancer
during the second stint on Riker's Island about three years
ago.
But Cesar insisted that he was the spiritual leader of the
Church of Realized Fantasies, and he was simply dispensing
its sacrement, ganga.
He sought to legalize the substance, which he believed would
aid in world peace, and delivered it free to AIDS patients.
[my personal take on this]
Another person who was defined into being a criminal by
ridiculous drug laws. Legalize it!

Oh, this is really sad news, Tom - thanks for posting it, now I'll know
to pay my respects. I knew he was ill for awhile, so it's not a
surprise, but it's still very sad. He was a good man, from all accounts
(well, all accounts that *matter* anyway).

This man was definitely no threat to anyone. I spoke with him on several
occasions, and knew him to be a gentle soul.
Sincerely,
