June 17 in American History
1775 - Battle of Bunker Hill (Colonists lose, but inflict heavy casualties
on the British)
1885 - Statue of Liberty arrives in New York City harbor.
1930 - President Hoover signs the Smoot-Hawley Tariff, a terrible tax (a
whopping quadrupling in tax-rate increases on over 20,000 imports) that
starts the Depression era when other countries do the same to the U.S. in
retaliation (causing a world-wide economic collapse), with *lower* revenues.
Sen. Reed Smoot (R-UT) and Rep. Willis Hawley (R-OR) were both defeated in
the '32 elections as was President Hoover, who supinely submitted to his
party and some business leaders, despite opposing the bill. Unemployment in
1930 was only 7.8% when the Tariff was passed (similar to today's rate), but
jumped to 16.3% in 1931, and then 24.9% in 1932, peaking at 25.1% in 1933.
1932 - The Bonus Army, numbering around 1,000 WW 1 veterans amass at the
Capitol to demand their pensions NOW.
(Gen. Douglas MacArthur later runs them over with Army tanks,
clinching the '32 election loss for Hoover)
1963 - The U.S. Supreme Court rules against requiring Bible verses and the
Lord's Prayer recitals in government schools. Beginning of the decline of
America in uplifting Government authority over a Higher Power, and decline
in determining what is right over what are mere laws by man.

1971 - President Nixon declares a War on Drugs, begins the trashing of the
entire Bill of Rights and rule of law.
1972 - Watergate break-in, beginning of the end for the Nixon administration
with his corruption, deceit, & cover-up.
