Pete "Pecky" Suder, 90, a lifelong resident of Aliquippa,
passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 14, 2006, at home.

Born on April 16, 1916, in Aliquippa, he was a son of the
late Bogich and Smilja (Segan) Suder. In 1934, he
graduated from Aliquippa High School where he played
basketball and baseball for the Quips. He was a
professional baseball player having played for the New
York Yankees's farm system. In April 15, 1941, he was
drafted by the Philadelphia Athletics, where he spent his
entire professional career playing baseball. "Pecky" was
a member of the legendary Philadelphia Athletics infield
who set a major league record of 217 double plays for
that season in 1949 - the record still stands today. Mr.
Suder was one of the first athletes to be inducted into the
Beaver County Sports Hall of Fame. He was an inductee
of the Aliquippa Sports Hall of Fame, the Binghamton
Baseball Shrine, where he was voted the most valuable
player.

Mr. Suder was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he
served during World War II, a member of the Aliquippa
School Board, and was a former employee of the
Beaver County Jail, where he worked as the Warden.
He was a member of Saint Elijah Serbian Orthodox
Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by
his first wife, Violet "Liz" Tatalovich Suder; a son,
George Suder; his second wife, Armenia "Mimi" Casoli
Suder; four brothers, Mike, Milton, Charles and
Theodore, and four sisters, Minnie, Annie, Katie and
Helen.

He is survived by a son and two daughters-in-law,
Peter and Diann Suder, Sun City, Ariz., and Rita Suder,
Alexandria, Va.; seven grandchildren, Rickey, Lori,
Susan, Thomas, Billy, Peter and Becky; several
great-grandchildren; a brother and sister-in-law, Juke
and Josephine Suder, Aliquippa; three stepchildren
and their spouses, Paul and Carla Flati, and David and
Roberta Flati, all of Aliquippa, and Barbara and
Richard Maccani, in Michigan; six step-grandchildren,
Paul, Phyllys, Abbie, Stephen, Jesse and Jamie; two
step-great-grandchildren, and brothers-in-law and
sisters-in-law, Daniel and Rose Casoli, and Diana Latin,
all in Michigan, and Mary Robertson, in South Carolina.

Friends will be received today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m.
in the ANTHONY MASTROFRANCESCO
FUNERAL HOME INC., 21st and McMinn Streets,
Aliquippa, 724-375-0496, where a service will be
conducted on Saturday at 9:30 a.m., followed by an
additional service at 10 a.m. in St. Elijah Serbian Church
with the Rev. Father Stevan Stepanov officiating.

Interment will follow in St. Elijah Serbian Cemetery,
Hopewell Township.

A Pomen (blessing service) will be held today at 7 p.m.
in the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, if desired, in
"Pecky's" name to the B.F. Jones Memorial Library.
