Big Bill Lister was a member of Hank Williams' Drifting Cowboys Band after
Hank fired most of the original, best-remembered group. Hank gave Bill a
song to record and an acetate of Hank singing it.

Years later, Lister found the old recording and passed it on to Hank
Williams Jr. Hank Jr. cleaned the recording of his dad up and added his own
vocals to provide a hit: "There's a Tear in My Beer."

Big Bill Lister, who first commercially recorded "There's a Tear in My
Beer," died December 1 in San Antonio, Texas. No cause of death was given.

Lister was called "Big Bill" because he was 6'7". He had many regional hits
following Williams' death, most notably, "RC Cola and a Moon Pie." Lister
was still performing, having done shows in October 2009.

Big Bill Lister was 86.
