We visited Martha's Vineyard last year and made a "pilgrimage" to John
Belushi's gravesite. There it was, in Abel Hill Cemetery on a winter's day
when all the graves were covered with snow, on the left side at the entrance
to the Revolutionary-war era cemetery, and surrounded by wooden fencing,
just as one turns off the highway. There was the familiar scene...the black
headstone with the skull & crossbones with Belushi's tribute to rock & roll
carved into it, the Marlboro packs and beer bottles on the grave left by
visiting Blues Brothers fans, and the large stone "bench" with Belushi
carved on it. But now I understand that he may no longer be buried there.
So much for the "pilgrimage." He said he wanted to be buried on Martha's
Vineyard because that's the only place where he ever got a good night's
sleep (I suppose it was at Dan Ackroyd's place there).

But is he there in that spot? Or was he moved to another part of the
cemetery, or off the island completely after certainly being buried there
originally?

By the way, any of you who visit Martha's Vineyard and make the circular
drive around the island into the countryside away from Oak Bluff and
Edgartown, be sure to visit the adorable wooden General Store/Grocery/Sundry
Goods/Post Office/Souvenir Shop with the old time Coca Cola cooler on the
wooden porch next to the rocking chairs. It's really a throwback in time
and you may just run into Carly Simon!

I checked findagrave.com for the info, and
checked a couple of other sites I linked to
from doing a Google search.

Long story short, Belushi's grave
is supposed to be 11 feet North, from
the tombstone. I'm not sure which one though.

Also, during the exhumation, his wooden casket
collapsed, and his remains were transferred to
a metal casket.

Best,
Alan Ramsey
