See the pyramids along the Nile
Watch the sunrise on a tropic isle
Just remember, darling all the while
You belong to me
See the market place in old Algiers
Send me photographs and souvenirs
Just remember when a dream appears
You belong to me
I'll be so lonesome without you
Maybe you'll be lonesome too
And blue
Fly the ocean in a silver plane
See the jungle when it's wet with rain
Just remember 'til you're home again
You belong to me
Maybe you'll be lonesome too
And blue
Fly the ocean in a silver plane
See the jungle when it's wet with rain
Just remember 'til you're home again
You belong to me
Maybe you'll be lonesome too
And blue
Fly the ocean in a silver plane
See the jungle when it's wet with rain
Just remember 'til you're home again
You belong to me
The Duprees "started as a street corner band," recalled Arnone's
daughter, Isabella Ahern, "and grew a legacy that lasted well over 40
years."
Founded by Arnone in the early 1960s, the original Duprees included
Tommy Petillo, Joe Santollo and Joey Vann. They were signed by former
big band leader George Paxton, president of Coed Records, and together
they combined doo-wop harmonies with big band background arrangements.
Their first hit single was "My Own True Love," with the group's vocals
set to "Tara's Theme" from the movie "Gone with the Wind," which
reached No. 2 on the Billboard charts in 1962. That year's album of the
same name reached No. 101 on the album charts.
Later hits included "You Belong to Me," which reached No. 7 on the pop
charts, "Have You Heard," "I'd Rather Be Here in Your Arms," "Why Don't
You Believe Me?" and "(It's No) Sin."
The group continued recording throughout the 1970s, and their single
"Delicious" reached No. 3 on the disco charts in 1975.
Arnone later retired from the group, which still performs on the oldies
circuit with Petillo and three new members.
"He started something that will last forever," his daughter said. "He
always thought it would fade away, and it never has."
Born in Jersey City, Arnone moved to the Jersey Shore area 20 years
ago.
He was a member of the Atlantic City chapter of Self Realization.
Surviving are two daughters, Isabella Ahern and Olivia Arnone; a son,
Augustus Arnone; a sister, Andrea Pastore, of Jersey City; a grandson,
Daniel Ahern; and his former wife, Elizabeth Arnone.

I always found it interesting that the rock and roll versions of these pop
songs were all about vocal delivery. The Page and Stafford versions are
certainly pleasant, but the Duprees one has that aching and yearning in the
lead vocal that separates it from "grownups' music"

me too

Chilton Price ("Slow Poke") actually wrote the song. She shared the
writing credit in hopes of future consideration.

I always thought Gene Vincent's did that best.
"You Belong To Me" ... to me ... is a song like "Love Letters" ...
IOW, I love just about any version of it. And as much as I love the
way the Duprees recorded it ... I like Jo Stafford's better. And I
like Patsy Cline's best of all. But then, I even like Bob Dylan's ...
