I just read on another group that TV journalist Britt Hume's son Sandy
was found dead in his apartment, an apparent suicide. I can't find
any mention of it in "normal" news sources, though.

Hume is one of the few TV journalists I regard as *above* pond scum in
the evolutionary chain, so I sort of follow his career. I guess that
means I follow gross details of his personal life, too, so I'm curious
about details of this grim news. Anyone?

Haven't see anything yet, but I suspect the tabloids will have some
background as to why he did it. I wonder if the Murdock owned tabloid
would have anything in it since he worked for Fox News? Hmm.. they
might be silent since it might make them look bad in some way.

Sandy Hume took his life on the 22nd at his DC home. He had a story in the
upcoming GEORGE Magazine on Congressman Bill Paxon -- GEORGE's people say
they don't know if they'll run it or not since his death -- and he
was the reporter who broke open the story of the attempted "coup" of Newt
Gingrich's speakership last year. Sandy was a correspondent for Fox News
and a contributor to his father's Sunday week-in-review show on Fox. Only
28. Quite sad.

Read it in the Houston Chroonicle about a week ago. Was reported to be a
suicide. Really sad. I, too think Brit Hume is one of the best out there.

Interesting piece in the media section of the latest Village Voice about Sandy
Hume. Seems he'd accepted an offer to write for US NEWS AND WORLD REPORT
the day before he died. He was arrested for drunk driving (75 mph in a 45
zone) that night and had strong alcohol on his breath. He was locked up and
found a few moments later trying to hang himself with his shoelaces. After
that, he was sent to a mental hospital for observation. Several hours
later, for reasons still unknown, he was released, and he then went home and
shot himself to death. The VOICE article speculated that if the hospital
declared Hume wasn't a threat to himself or others, the Hume family could
sue bigtime. Again, a very sad, very bizarre story.

It is a hideous story. But evidently - Mr Hume - according to a posting
by Sam Nunn's son :: Hume was on probation for some incident in NY
a few years ago. DUI would have revoked the probation.
