He had a chronically bad heart, had a heart operation (probably bypass),
but died, nonetheless, a couple of years later, still in his early 30s.
Talented man and his recording of Mack the Knife still stands up fairly
well.
A great singer, he was. Look him up on the web, there are some good
pages dedicated to him.

Congestive heart failure, following heart surgery.
An excellent book on Darin's career and life is a 1981 biography, BORROWED
TIME, by Al DiOrio (Running Press, Philadelphia). It's out of print but you
might be able to find it at the library or at a used bookstore.

It was a Saturday night. Bobby was taking a bath. He was a splishin' and a
splashin', when Mack came in and Knifed him. His body was found early sunday
morning by the Queen of the Hop.
Good, but you left out the part about waiting for his dream lover to appear
("Bobby was taking a bath, waiting for his dream lover to knock"). Also, you
included the time, but not the place: somewhere beyond the sea!
