C. Michael Schneider Diplomat, CIA Analyst

C. Michael Schneider, 70, a former State Department diplomat who later
worked as an economic analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency [CIA],
died February 14, 2009, at Inova Fairfax [Virginia] Hospital. He had
complications from non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Mr. Schneider, who lived in Falls Church, Virfinia, joined the State
Department in 1966. He was a consular officer in Canada and an economics
officer in Austria before joining the CIA in 1981.

He spent most of his CIA tenure as an economic analyst at the agency's
Langley headquarters, except for a three-year tour in Germany in the 1990s.
He retired in 2001 but continued to work on contract for the CIA until last
year.

Charles Michael Schneider was born in Cincinnati and was a graduate of the
University of Cincinnati, Ohio, where he was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa
honor society. He worked at a bank in his home town before coming to
Washington DC.

He contributed to the National Symphony Orchestra and was a Civil War
history buff. He volunteered for the Democratic Party in Fairfax County,
Virginia, and enjoyed following the Cincinnati Reds baseball team and
Washington Redskins football team.

Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Nancy Smith Schneider of Falls
Church, Virginia; three children, Michael B. Schneider of Reston, Virinia,
Leslie S. Daley of Fairfax City, Virginia, and Susan S. Eddy of Manassas,
Virginia; a brother, Thomas Schneider of Potomac; and four grandchildren.
