Gustavo Gil, Venezuelan big leaguer between 1967 and 1971, a cornerstone in the dynasty of the Industrialists of Valencia and member of our National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Venezuela, died Tuesday in Phoenix, Arizona, victim of a respiratory arrest.

Gil developed a career of 19 seasons in the LVBP, between 1959 and 1978. He played nine seasons with Valencia, nine more with the Magellan and the last with the Cardinals of Lara. He was the greatest second baseman of Venezuela, before the appearance of Manny Trillo also immortal.

Born in Caracas 76 years ago, in 1939.

Gil had 982 hits .286 in almost 3,500 at-bats. He played 12 playoffs, a record in the LVBP until Alex Delgado snatched the privilege.

He reached the majors with the Cleveland Indians and then defended the Seattle Pilots and Milwaukee Brewers. In his retirement, he was coach and manager of the Sharks in the Creole ball.
