Major-General John Antony Ward-Booth, OBE, DL, Consultant with Francis
Graves and Partners, 1989-95, and a former GOC Western District, died
in hospital, 25 August, 2002, aged 75.

He was born 18 July, 1927, son of the Revd. J. Ward-Booth, and Mrs
E.M. Ward-Booth, and was educated at Worksop College, Nottinghamshire.

Career: Ward-Booth joined the Army in 1945; was commissioned into the
Worcestershire Regiment in India, 1946; served in India and the Middle
East, 1946-48; Regular commission Bedfordshire & Hertfordshire
Regiment, 1948; served BAOR, Far East, Nigeria and Congo, 1950-63,
transferred to the Parachute Regiment, 163; commanded 3rd Battalion,
Parachute Regiment, 1967-69; Hong Kong, 1969-70; Commander, 16
Parachute Brigade, 1970-73; National Defence College, Canada, 1973-74;
Deputy Adjutant General, Headquarters, BAOR, 1974-75; Director, Army
Air Corps, 1976-79; General Officer Commanding, Western Dstrict,
1979-82; Deputy Colonel, Royal Anglian Regiment, 1982-87; Secretary,
Eastern Wessex TAVRA, 1982-89; Honorary Vice-President, Army Rugby
Union, 1982; Governor: Enham Village Centre, 1982-97; Clayesmore
School, Dorset, 1985-2000 (Chairman 1989-94).

Major-General Ward-Booth was appointed a Deputy Lieutenant for
Hampshire in 1988.

He married in 1952, Margaret Joan, daughter of the Rev. A.W. Hooper,
MC, MA, by whom he had two sons and two daughters, Timothy (deceased),
Peter, Susan and Elizabeth.

The Cremation takes place at Basingstoke Crematorium, 30 August, 2002,
at 10.30 a.m. followed by a Thanksgiving Service at All Saints
Garrison Church, Aldershot, 28 September, 2002, at 11.30 a.m.
