Five people will appear in the Cape Town Magistrate's Court tomorrow in
connection with the murders of Brett Goldin, a well-known actor, and
Richard Bloom, a fashion designer. Billy Jones, a police spokesperson,
says their bodies were found in a field next to the off-ramp from the
M5 freeway to Klipfontein road in Mowbray early today.
They were found lying on their stomachs, naked, each with bullet wounds
at the back of their heads. A Gauteng based radio station reported that
Bloom was a fashion designer. Goldin played B-Dog in the movie, Crazy
Monkey.
The two were registered as missing after Camps Bay police found a
credit card belonging to Goldin in the possession of three men whose
car was stopped and searched at 5am. They were arrested for being in
possession of a suspected stolen item. Two other men were arrested in
Crawford, Athlone at about 9am today. Police say the arrested men
pointed out the bodies.
The five, all in their late teens and early 20s and all from the
Athlone area, would appear on a charge of possession of stolen items in
the Cape Town Magistrate's Court tomorrow and on charges of murder and
robbery in the Wynberg Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. - Sapa
In case it's not obvious, this all took place in South Africa.

(Brett Goldin also played the role of "Pigball Star" in the BCC series
"Cavegirl" which was shot (no pun intended) around Cape Town, SA.)

It's still so unreal'

Cape Town - A mother waited in vain for her well-known actor son to
have breakfast with her, little knowing that several hours earlier he
and a bosom friend had been cold-bloodedly shot in the back of the
head.
The naked bodies of Brett Goldin, 27 - one of the stars of the film
Crazy Monkey - Straight Outta Benoni - and fashion product manager
Richard Bloom, 28, were found in the veld on Monday next to an
off-ramp between the M5 highway and Klipfontein Road in Rondebosch.
Bloom and Goldin's bodies were lying close together on their stomachs.
They were wearing only their socks.
The police said they had not been assaulted in any way.
Three suspects led police to the bodies under a stand of pine trees.
The friends were last seen alive at about 23:45 on Saturday night,
leaving a party hosted by Craig Port, a well-known fashion designer,
in Bakoven.
The two left together in Bloom's car.
Two cellphones and the car are still missing.
Credit cards
No one knows where the men were overpowered, when they were murdered,
why the murderers left their clothes at the scene of the crime or how
Goldin's credit card came into the possession of three men in Camps
Bay.
Superintendent Billy Jones said three young men were arrested at about
05:00 on Sunday in Camps Bay because of their "suspicious behaviour".
"Goldin apparently had an appointment at 11:00 on Sunday morning with
his mother.
"When he didn't turn up, she got worried and notified the police,&"
Jones said.
Jones added that senior detectives questioned the suspects on Sunday
and through the night before the scene was pointed out.
Two more suspects were arrested at about 09:00 on Monday morning.
A resident of Park Street in Rondebosch, Anton Peters, said his
neighbour heard two gunshots on Saturday at about midnight, but was
not concerned "because it happens regularly in nearby Athlone".
Knew something was amiss Bloom's life partner for the past five years
and more, Bryan Hellman, said he knew something was amiss when Bloom
did not return home.
"It was almost a relief this morning just to know, but it's still so
unreal.
"I try to think how I feel, but then I just have to stop. I can't
think straight."
Hellmann was not at the party on Saturday night, but with other
friends. He and Bloom met each other through Goldin.
He was too shocked on Monday to look at photos of Bloom.
"I had fun with him. He could let me have fun, and it's not easy."
Bloom's father Tony, 63, said his son was highly intelligent and loved
his work.
"He never lost his temper and really cared about other people.
"It's so unnecessary that he should become a statistic in the prime of
his life."
Drugs
Bloom's mother Sandra, 61, said policemen told one of her son's
friends that the suspects were under the influence of drugs.
Jones could not confirm this.
"Brett was a very nice person - too nice," was all the badly
traumatised Peter Goldin could say about his son.
Both Goldin and Bloom grew up in Johannesburg.
Their parents said Goldin had been in Cape Town for about 10 years,
while Bloom had been in the city for the past three years.
It is expected that they will both be buried in Johannesburg.
