I have received a message to my site stating that Noble Willingham, who
played C.D. Parker on the TV series "Walker, Texas Ranger", died last
Saturday in California. The writer of the note did not leave contact
information so I haven't been able to talk with him (or her). He stated
that he worked at the newspaper in Noble Willingham's hometown of Mineola,
Texas.

I couldn't find a Mineola, Texas newspaper listed on-line. I searched an
online newspaper from nearby Tyler, Texas but didn't find anything. I
believe the note to my site is likely to be genuine but I can't confirm it.

Actor Noble Willingham dies at 72
Associated Press

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. -Noble Willingham, who left his role as a saloon owner on
the television series "Walker, Texas Ranger" to make a run for political office
in Texas, has died. He was 72.

Willingham died Saturday at his Palm Springs home, his manager, Sandy Josephs,
said Tuesday.

He died of natural causes, according to the Riverside County coroner's office
in nearby Indio. Further details were not available.

Willingham, who worked steadily as a supporting actor in films and television,
was the 2000 Republican nominee for Congressional District 1 in East Texas. He
lost to Democrat Max Sandlin.

He played barkeep C.D. Parker on "Walker, Texas Ranger" from 1993-99. His
character was a former Texas Ranger who provided advice on cases to Ranger Cord
Walker, played by series star Chuck Norris.

Willingham's "distinctive voice and warmly gruff manner" helped him bring
authority figures to life, according to a release from Josephs.

A native of Mineola, Texas, Willingham pursued his dream of acting after
earning a master's degree at Baylor University and working as a teacher.

He was among the local Texans hired when "The Last Picture Show" (1971) was
filmed on location by director Peter Bogdanovich. His other film credits
included "Paper Moon" (1973); "Chinatown" (1974); "City Slickers" (1991), its
1994 sequel, "Ace Ventura: Pet Detective" (1994) and "Up Close and Personal"
(1996).

He returned to acting after his failed campaign, filming "Blind Horizon" with
star Val Kilmer in 2002. The movie is scheduled to be released this year.

A visitation was planned for Wednesday, with another to be held Thursday,
according to Wiefels & Son Funeral Directors in Palm Springs. Plans for a
memorial service in Los Angeles were pending, Josephs said.

Willingham is survived by his wife, Patti Ross Willingham, children Stori
Willingham, Meghan McGlahen and John Ross McGlahen and grandson Noble
Willingham III.

Well, shit. Another guy I liked to watch perform in various
character roles, although he usually stuck to doing some type of
a sheriff, or a judge, or other type of an official.
RIP Noble.

...odd that the AP doesn't mention my two favourite films he appeared in
-- THE CORNDOG MAN (for which he was nominated for the Lead Actor
Independent Spirit award) and GOOD MORNING, VIETNAM...

That was an edited AP obit. The original did mention "Good
Morning, Vietnam." He was terrific in GM,V.

Very sad.

Thank you Noble, for 2 Great performances, G.M. Vietnam and City

I thought he was especially great in Good Morning Vietnam. As I usually
associate him with playing villians, I was impressed with this role as a
sympathetic superior officer.

RIP
