Lady Catlin, widow of Sir George, dies aged 88...

Lady Catlin, who died in hospital, 19 January, 2002, aged 88, was the
widow of Sir George Edward Gordon Catlin, (1896-1979).

Sir George was a teacher and writer on political philosophy and
kindred subjects, who had been Professor of Politics at Cornell
University during 1924-35.

Born Delinda Tassi, she was the widow of Lieutenant-Commander Victor
Gates, RN, and married Sir George as his second wife in 1971. Her
husband's first wife was the writer Vera Brittain, who had died in
1970.

Lady Catlin's step-daughter is Baroness Williams of Crosby, who as
Shirley Williams, MP, was Labour Secretary of State for Education and
Science, and co-founder of the SDP in 1981.

The funeral service will take place at Lyndhurst Roman Catholic
Church, on Wednesday 30 January, 2002, at 2 p.m. followed by
cremation.
