By JENNIFER KONERMAN
Sound editor and writer George E. Simpson died after a heart attack on
Nov. 1. He was 64.
In the early '70s, Simpson got his first job in the industry as an
editor in Universal's trailer department where he met future writing
collaborator Neal S. Burger. He and Burger wrote a TV movie, "The
Disappearance of Flight 412," as their first writing credit, based on
one of Burger's Air Force UFO experiences.
The two went on to write five books for Dell Publishing, including
"Ghostboat," which was adapted by Granada TV for a British miniseries.
For the past 25 years, Simpson has been with Weddington, Technicolor
Sound and Soundelux as a sound effects editor and supervising sound
editor, where he worked on films including "Training Day," "Shooter,"
"The Mist," "Tears of the Sun," "Lethal Weapon 4," "Dante's Peak" and
"Conspiracy Theory."
Simpson is survived by his daughter, Anna-Claire Simpson, and sister,
Jane Simpson.
Donations may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation and the
American Cancer Society.
