Then, as I recall, a few months later his wife (Betty?) died from swallowing
her tongue.
Bizarre story all around. Can anybody point me to the actual details?
Thanks.

Mario Lanza died on October 7, 1959 at the age of 38 of a heart attack,
his third. He'd been hospitalized in Rome with phlebitis.
Most of the stories concerning his alleged murder by the Mafia have to
do with unpaid gambling debts.
Bette Lanza reportedly had a drink-and-drug problem. I can't find a
date of death for her.
It's also rumoured that equipment was tampered with during one of these
sessions.

"Betty Lanza died on 11th March 1960, from the PM it was
reported that she had a high concentration of alcohol in her blood but
not anywhere near enough to be fatal, the actual cause has not been made
public which is a pity because it could have put to rest the persistent
rumours. After Mario died she lost all her interest in life and showed
no interest at all in anything much at all except her grief."
I thought it was very nice of him to take time to answer my question.
