Al Williams
Entertainer, inventor-designer
By VARIETY STAFF
Al Williams, a one-time entertainer in his own right and husband of
entertainer David Cassidy's mother, Evelyn Ward, died June 25 at
Encino-Tarzana Regional Medical Center as a result of injuries
sustained during World War II. He was 86.
Allton Charles (Al) Williams was born in West Orange, N.J. and was a
big band singer/performer. Upon graduation from high school, he
enlisted in the Army. During WWII, he was injured and was held as a POW
by the Nazis for three years.
After his war service, he became an inventor-designer, working on
chemical plants, industrial centers, and more. Upon his retirement, he
became a volunteer at VA hospitals, designing prosthesis and
therapeutic devices for hospitalized vets.
Besides his wife and Cassidy, he is survived by two children,
grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
>Died of injuries sustained in WW 2? Only took him 60 years, didn't it?!
One of my cousins is slowly dying from pulmonary fibrosis brought
about by getting gassed by the Japanese in the Philippines during
WWII. I'm hoping it will take a long time yet, but his condition gets
a little worse each year and he's in his early eighties. b

Not as unusual as you might think ...
Go to any VA Hospital and you'll see that it is not that unusual.
Funny, I always thought that David Cassidy's mother was actress Shirley
Jones.

Nope. Reportedly, Cassidy auditioned for the show and got the job
without anyone knowing Shirley was his stepmother. I can believe the
first but not necessarily the second.
Jack had David with Evelyn. He had Shaun, Patrick and Ryan with
Shirley.
BTW, Shirley once said on TV that she and Marty Ingels (later her
husband) had sex on their first date. I just thought I'd throw that
in.
