Kari was born on February 17, 1972, in Marquette, to Daniel August
Britton and Marilyn Jeanie (Skiver) Britton. Kari attended Marquette
Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1990.
She then attended Northern Michigan University and earned a degree in
Cosmetology. Later, she also attended Bay College and earned a nurse
assistant certificate. She first worked as a hairdresser at Headlines
Hair Studio in Harvey before co-opening a salon in West Ishpeming.
She had also worked for the Garret Eye Center in Iron Mountain,
Dickinson County Memorial Hospital and as a child care provider.
Kari was married on August 14, 1992, to Steven Blair Burton at the
Prince of Peace Church in Harvey.
She left the work force to raise two wonderful children, Andrew Scott
and Cecilia Blair.
Kari has lived with her family in Bay City, Midland, Kingsford,
Marquette and just recently moved to Houghton.
Kari was an advocate for organ donation. She received a liver
transplant in 2002 at the University of Wisconsin Hospital in Madison.
She inspired everyone she met with her survival story.
She and her family are eternally grateful for the gift of life she
received from the late Judy Dierke and her husband, Dennis Dierke of
Stoughton, Wis.
Kari is survived by her husband, Steven Blair (35); children, Andrew
Scott (12) and Cecilia Blair (10) Burton of Houghton; her parents,
Daniel and Marilyn Britton of Harvey, and Daniel and Sharon Burton of
Michigamme; her sister, Marci (Dan) Woodaz and family of Lexington,
S.C.; her brothers-in-law, Scott (Jennifer) Burton of Green Bay, Wis.
and Mark Burton and Amy Dody of Lansing. She was very fond of her
three best friends, Tonya Healy of Skandia, Nancy Burnette of Harvey
and Jennifer Lange of Pickney. She is also survived by numerous
uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by grandparents, Alice and Ralph Skiver,
Marquette, and John and Lyle Britton of Harvey.
A memorial service will be held at the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church
in Harvey, at 11 a.m. on Thursday, December 28, 2006, with Pastor Rell
Spickerman to officiate. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time
of service on Thursday at the church.
All friends and family are welcome to attend and are encouraged to
bring their favorite photograph of Kari to post on a photo collage
before the memorial service.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers donations be made to the
educational funds of her children, Andrew and Cecilia. Donations may
be mailed to Steven Burton at P.O. Box 294, Baraga, MI 49908.
Arrangements are being handled by the Jukuri-Antila Funeral Home of
Hancock, Antila Funeral Service, Inc.
