Airplane Suicide

By Kevin King, Cindy Klose

Family members explain what led a man to jump to his death from a plane this
week.

It happened over Geary County as 31-year-old Scott Marshall was being
returned home from Texas.

Marshall apparently jumped from about 2500 feet without a parachute.

Marshall's family says he suffered from mental stress.

He caused a disturbance in Houston Saturday, when he told airport officials
he thought he had a bomb in his luggage.

Officials didn't find anything, they said Marshall was fatigued after a
flight from Tokyo.

You don't mention the location - this was just outside the town I live
in, Manhattan, Kansas. It happened Monday, as we all heard about it
Tuesday morning. Reports were that this was 8 miles outside of town,
and he was returning home in a private plane his father was flying. I
can't imagine what his father had to go through, flying the plane in for
a landing after his son jumped to his death.
He went to high school with my cubicle neighbor at work. She was
pretty upset about it, since Scott was apparently in her brother's high
school class and they were still friends.
