Sir James Heron Walker, 5th Baronet, who held the Baronetcy [of Sand
Hutton] for almost 73 years; a breeder of long haired Dacshunds, died
suddenly at his home, Oakhill, Port Soderick, Isle of Man, 9 January,
2003. He was 88.

Four Baronets have died over a six day period, the others are: Sir
Paul Bowman, 5th Bt, died 6 Jan; Sir Michael Thomas, 11th Bt, died 10
Jan; & Sir Anthony Havelock-Allan, 4th Bt, died 11 Jan.

James Heron Walker was born 7 April, 1914, elder son of Major Sir
Robert James Milo Walker, 4th Baronet (1890-1930), Director & Chairman
of Sand Hutton Light Railway Co., of Sand Hutton, York, by his first
wife, Synolda Emily, daughter of James Augustine Harvey
Thursby-Pelham.

He was educated at Eton and Magdalene College, Cambridge, and
succeeded to the baronetcy on the death of his father, 11 February,
1930.

The family home was Ringdale Manor, Faringdon, Berkshire, but he made
his home in the Isle of Man some years ago.

He was twice married. Firstly, in 1939, to Angela Margaret, daughter
of Victor Alexandre Beaufort, OBE, MC, & of Mrs C.F. Burnard, of The
Old Cadet House, Gorey, Jersey, Channel Islands. This union ended in
divorce in 1972. He married secondly, in 1972, Sharrone Babette, the
eldest daughter of David Philip Read, of Clanfield, Oxfordshire.

He leaves a son from the first marriage, Victor Stewart Heron Walker
[b. 1942], and a son the second marriage, Simon Peter [b. 1974].

The elder son now succeeds to the baronetcy.

A daughter, Celia, died as the result of a motor accident in South
Africa in 1969 aged 20.

A Service of Thanksgiving takes place at St Matthew's Church, Douglas,
Isle of Man, Tuesday 28 January, 2003.
