Is Margie Hendricks still around? When Ray Charles recorded in the late
50's and early 60's (on both Atlantic & ABC Paramount), his female backup
group was the Raylettes. The dominant voice in the Raylettes was Margie
Hendricks. Remember her voice in "Hit The Road Jack" :

Ray:
"Oh baby now baby
Dontcha treat me this way
Cause I'll be back
On my feet someday"

Margie:
"Don't care if you do
Cause it's understood
You ain't got no money
You just ain't no good."

She was on many other Ray Charles recordings and tours too.

Whatever happened to her? Is she still with us?

Margie Hendrix was Ray Charles' ... mistress,
for a long time. Ray Charles is the father of her
child.

The song was written by Percy Mayfield. Milt Turner,
Fathead Newman and Leroy Cooper ... and maybe Hank
Crawford were also on that recording.

She was one of the original Cookies and had a hit
with "In Paradise."
