Vaughn Salandy, a popular Trinidadian television anchorman, died Thu Feb 12
of liver and kidney failure, five days after saying he had been forced to
drink a deadly weed killer during a trip to Barbados. Salandy was 29.

Salandy had worked for TV6 in Trinidad. He was rushed to a Trinidad
hospital by air ambulance last Tuesday, after telling police in Barbados
that two Canadians had forced him to drink the weed killer Gramoxone.
Salandy did not identify them, nor did he say why they made him drink the
poison. Police said there was no sign of forced entry into Salandy's hotel
room. It was not known why Salandy had gone to Barbados on the Friday
before his death without informing TV6, which filed a missing persons
report after Salandy failed to show up for work.

Salandy had been reported missing the Friday before his death after failing
to arrive at work as expected.
