FROM: The Ventura County Star ~
(Paid obit)

Don passed away peacefully September 1, 2010
following a long illness. His wife Gail, nephew,
Bob Lang and Bob's wife, Janet were at his
bedside.

He is survived by his wife Gail of Ojai and sister
Vivian of San Diego. He also leaves many nieces
and nephews.

Don played third base for the St Louis Cardinals
and the Cincinnati Reds from 1938 until 1948. [1]
At the time of his death, he was one of the oldest
surviving major league ball players. [2]

Cremation is by the Neptune Society. His ashes
will be scattered at sea at a later date.

The family would like to thank the Los Robles
Care Center for their loving care to Don and also
his devoted wife Gail.

A rose bush will be planted at his residence,
The Gables in Ojai, in Don's memory. The red
rose will represent the color of his baseball teams.

Thanks to Jack Morris from SABR for this obit.

[1] He played third base in 1938 for the Reds
and he played third base in 1948 for the Cardinals.
In-between he was a third baseman in the minor
leagues (Yankees and Red Sox) and he was in
the military.
