Screenwriter and son of actress missing on Mount Baldy

MOUNT BALDY, Calif. - Rescue workers searched Monday for a screenwriter
and the son of actress Annie Potts who went hiking on Mount Baldy
Sunday and did not return.
Jonathan Lempkin, 43, whose writing credits include "The Devil's
Advocate," and "Lethal Weapon 4" and Clay Senechal, 23, were scheduled
to return from a day of hiking around 7 p.m. Sunday.
Senechal is the son of Annie Potts, who starred in the television show
"Designing Women" and played Bo Peep in "Toy Story 2," and director B.
Scott Senechal.
San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Robin Haynal
said deputies received a call around 11 p.m. from family members
reporting that the hikers were missing. A search was started and rescue
workers found the men's Range Rover at the base of a trail head.
"They searched all night," Haynal said. "It's very icy up there because
we've had a lot of snow, and it's very rough terrain."
The 10,064-foot mountain, the tallest peak in the San Gabriel
Mountains, is about 40 miles northeast of downtown Los Angeles.
The sheriff's department has asked for assistance from Los Angeles and
Riverside County agencies.

There is no way her son is 43 years old. She's probably not much older
than 43 herself.

lady who was very supportive during and after my wife's illness. Jonathan

Potts, spent a cold night on Mount Baldy after they lost their way in
heavy fog, sparking a search that ended Monday when the two found a
trail and hiked out of the wilderness.
Clay Senechal, 23, and screenwriter Jonathan Lempkin, 43, whose credits
include "The Devil's Advocate" and "Lethal Weapon 4," were scheduled to
return from a day of hiking around 7 p.m. Sunday. Searchers were called
out later that night.
Senechal is the son of Potts, who starred in the television show
"Designing Women" and played Bo Peep in "Toy Story 2," and of director
B. Scott Senechal.
After heavy fog closed in around them, the two decided it would be
safer to spend the night on the mountain and hike out the following
morning.
Rescue workers searched all night after family members reported the
hikers missing late Sunday.

Oh, I get it -- thanks for the clarification. I didn't realize
"screenwriter and son" meant two people, I thought it meant her son was
the screenwriter. Sounds like the news is good and they were found safe,
thankfully.

name, not Jonathan. So what I think has happened is that Annie's ex-husband

current husband Jim were at home safe but worried, until the news of the two
being safe was learned. The only problem with this is that the news reports
I saw clearly stated that Jonathan was her husband.
Clearly I'm not deeply connected to the family, but I remember (with my
sieve-like memory) being at their house last summer and looking up every
time someone said, "Jim," only to realize it was Annie's husband (whom I met
that day) they were talking about.
If I can't write more clearly and concisely than this, I ought to stop
writing.

According to IMDb, Annie Potts has been married three times: to Steven
Hartley (1973-78), B. Scott Senechal (1980-89), and James Hayman
(1990-present). She had Clay with Senechal in 1981. Her other two
children -- Doc (1992) and Harry (1996) -- are with Hayman.
There is no one named Lempkin (Jonathan or otherwise) listed in the
IMDb. However, there is a screenwriter named Jonathan Lemkin, whose
credits range from "Hill Street Blues" to "Lethal Weapon 4."
Clay Senechal was a stuntman on the 1995 flick "Houseguest" and is/was
a production assistant on "Judging Amy," and seems to have no credits
in common with either Lemkin or his mother.
