El Paso Comedian Dies

July 11, 2005

An El Paso Comedian who was making a name for himself in
Hollywood has suffered an untimely death.

35 year old Freddy Soto, died in his sleep Sunday morning at his
Los Angeles home.

The El Paso High School Graduate had performed on the Tonight
Show with Jay Leno, Comedy Central's Premium Blend and had a
supporting role in the recent movie, "Spanglish" starring Adam
Sandler.

Friends say Soto's humor was firmly planted in his El Paso roots.

"The neat part about Freddy is that not only did he come from El
Paso but his comedy was all about El Paso and growing up here. If
you knew his grandfather, Mr. Cooper, his grandmother, his Dad,
Freddy Senior, you understood the comedy, where it came from.
Freddy's death is tragic for the industry. We lost a great
comedian. El Paso lost a great citizen and the rest of us lost a
great friend," said Gilbert Guillen, a friend of Freddy's.

There's no official cause of death.

Guillen says Freddy's family believes it was an aneurysm that
took his life prematurely.

Soto is survived by his wife, Cory and their two year old
daughter, Cruz.
