Thursday's Chicago Tribune, reports the death of well-known Chicago sports
promoter, Ben Bentley, aged 81. He was the host of Sportswriters On TV
which went off the air in 1995.

Is he the guy with the raspy voice who always had a cigar in his mouth ?
I know that I probably just descibed hundreds of sports writers , however
Chicago residents should know who I am talking about .

...that's the one...yet another subject of Don Vogel's brilliant
impersonations can compare notes with the Round Mound of Sound without
having to use the Heaven Hotline (and Chicago residents should know what
that refers to too)...

I think the one with the Cigar was Gleason not Bentley

...I recall seeing both Bill Gleason and Ben Bentley with cigars on the
"Sportswriters on TV" show, but Ben made his as ubiquitous a trademark as
Red Auerbach's...
