As a huge fan of the matchless comic acting (if not always the sometimes preposterous scripts) of all three of the Day/Hudson/Randall cinematic love romps, I'm naturally curious if anyone knows of the status of the wonderful Ms. Perry Blackwell.

She's of course in only that single scene of "Pillow Talk", but performs three songs, each marvelously, and thus seems to be (or have been?) a terrific bundle of talent.

Yet repeated internet searches over the last few years have yielded nothing more than Blackwell's middle name of Lee. By now she'd be in her mid-80s at least, so I doubt she's still performing; then again, there's B.B. King and the sainted Chuck Berry, who are each still onstage regularly, so who knows?

Oh, and does anyone have any idea who that bass player working behind Blackwell is/was?

Thanks in advance!

As of 2009 she was living with family in Arizona, and there's been no
obit since. Perry's daughter and granddaughter posted comments to this
YouTube clip of "Roly Poly" (from Pillow Talk) within the past several
years:

A huge thank you is due, as per usual, to you, Brad.

Y'know, while doing commercial newstalk radio 1989-2008 in various markets around the country, I managed to earn something of a reputation for knowing loads of obscure factual stuff, but I ain't NUTTIN' compared to you. Obviously.

Oh, and I'm delighted to learn Ms. Blackwell's still living and, perhaps, still tickling those ivories at home!

Heck, if Rosa Rio could continue to perform regularly in *public* up to the age
of 107, why not?...r

Me? Sarcastic?

Yo "R. H.":

Man, I'm feeling less informed than ever today! That is, I had never heard of the remarkable career--not to mention her amazing longevity!--of the late organist Rosa Rio. Thanks so much for exposing me to this incredible accomplished musician.

I suppose next you're gonna tell me that the second letter in Dylan's name is pronounced like a Y....

Silent movie buff here, and in the early days of home video, Rosa Rio was the
accompanist for just about every silent film released on VHS tape (she was under
some sort of contract to the folks at Video Yesteryear, who had a near lock on
that segment of the video market)...so the name was very familiar to me....

At the time I added her to my deadpool list, her actual age was a well-guarded
secret, and then someone honored her at some function and the question came up:
was she eighty-five?...ninety?...no, she had to confess, she was then 102....

It *is* a Y, so of course it's pronounced like a Y....r

Still alive, as of this post. When Russell Arms died last February,
Eileen became the last surviving lead performer from Your Hit Parade.

She also appears, uncredited, in "Dead Ringer" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dead_Ringer_%281964_film%29 ). She does not sing, but she plays organ with a drummer in the background of a few scenes set in a small nightclub.
