I HATE posting sad news.....The NY Founding Tent of the Sons of the Desert lost one of it's long time members last week. We lost our good friend Steve Ames.

Steve was a talented singer and entertainer who sang the old songs in old fashioned style. A straw hat was not foreign to him as he sang in the style of Jolson, Cantor, etc.

He suffered from diabetes and wasn't aware of it. He went into a diabetic coma and died. Very sad for such a talent who always came through for the Sons with entertainment at our banquets when we asked him to. He was only 62 years old.

He even had his own public access TV program and had many folks in the entertainment on his show. What would seem corny to most folks was NOT corny to him. He loved old fashioned entertainment and was not afraid to do it. He leaves behind his Mom.....R.I.P Steve.......we will miss you! G-d bless!

PS Thank you Stan Taffel for the picture.

[This is Derek now]:

I knew Steve Ames mostly through his appearances as an attendee at the annual Friends of Old Time Radio convention (discontinued 2011)

Check out the below YouTube link to an episode of his public access “The Steve Ames Show” with special guest – NYC nostalgia radio personality Danny Stiles (on-topic).

Not wanting to speak ill of the dead, especially at Christmas-time, I posit this link so that you can makc your own assessments of Steve’s “talent.”
