For all those expatriate Philadelphians out there, it may interest you to hear
the news that long-time television performer Larry Ferrari passed away
yesterday at the age of 65. The obit I read did not mention the cause of
death.

Beginning in 1957, Ferrari played his Kimball pipe organ on his weekly Sunday
TV show until the show ended this past summer.

I was a bit saddened by this news, I noticed the article over someone's
shoulder this morning on the El. I remember him and his show. As a child,
I used to find it amusing that his name rhymed. He was the Liberache (sp?)
of Philadelphia.

Larry was a nice guy. He used to go to the auditorium at Philadelphia State
hospital (Byberry) and give concerts for the clients there for free around
Christmas time.
I worked there and was at a few of them.

As a native Philadelphian, the name Larry Ferrari is certainly a blast
from the past, may he RIP. And this just a couple of months after Whithey
Ashburn's passing. Makes me wonder (as I live in VA now) if Gene London,
Sally Starr, Wee Willie Weber, Happy the Clown, Chief Halftown, Pixanne,
Jerry Blavat (the Geator with the Heater), Miss Connie are still around.
Any info?

Sally Starr, Bill Weber, Jane "Pixanne" Norman and Jerry Blavat are definitely
still living. "Our Gal Sal" still makes public appearances in the area, though
I think she lives in Florida these days. I'm not sure which station, but Weber
is still on radio, so is Blavat. There were news reports a couple of years
back to the effect that Blavat had once put out a mob contract on rival DJ Hy
Lit, but no proof was ever offered, and Blavat heatedly denies it.

I'm pretty sure Gene London, Chief Halftown and Miss Connie are still livng,
but not certain. Sad to say, though, Happy The Clown passed on about 2 years
ago.

Did you know: that a picture of Larry Farrari hangs behind every podium at the entrance of the Bucca di Beppo restaurants? We have them in Las Vegas and in California as well as back east. Ask the staff who he is and no-one seems to know. Ed. Zimmerman, Jr. originally from Philly.
