I hope I'm spelling her name right, as it may be "Paine." (I just heard this
on the radio and haven't seen it in print yet.) Beverly Payne was the first
African American news anchorwoman in the Detroit area, working (I believe) at
WJBK-Channel 2 for many years. She had been living in California recently and
died today of cancer at age 51.
