Kathryn Therese Newcomer

NEWCOMER , Kathryn Therese
(Jordan) Kathryn died peace fully at home, surrounded by family early
Friday morning, February 9, 2007, in Malibu, California. She was 86.
In keeping with her desire for pri vacy in life, there will be no
public memorial.
She was born Kathryn Therese Jordan, June 18, 1920, in Peoria,
Illinois, the daughter of James Edward Jordan and Marian Driscoll. Her
parents were known as "Fibber McGee and Molly" by millions of radio
listeners during the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s.
Throughout her life, Kay was an avid music lover and an accomplished
pianist and organist. She also pursued an interest in creative writing
and had several short stories and poems published in various popular
magazines. She possessed a green thumb: her rose gardens and herb
gardens were spectacular.
For more than 50 years, Kay was the beloved wife and companion of Dr.
Victor Newcomer, a well-known dermatologist and UCLA professor. Dr.
Newcomer died in 2002.
Kay is deeply missed by her family members and friends. She will be
remembered as a fiercely independent person with a sparkling wit and
uncanny intuition.
Kay is survived by her children Diane Marie Langmuir, Palisades, NY;
Jennifer Jordan, Los Osos, CA; and Don Newcomer and his wife Beth
Newcomer, Malibu, California. She is also survived by three
grandchildren, Tyson Mack, Boise, ID; Clayton Mack, San Diego, CA; and
Molly Langmuir, New York, NY; as well as three nieces, Janice Jordan
and Molly Jordan, both of Los Angeles, CA, and Peggy Jordan, Seattle,
WA.
Donations may be made in Kay's name to the charity of your choice.

Jim Jordan (Fibber McGee) died on 1 April 1988 at the age of 91.
Marian Driscoll Jordan (Molly) died on 7 April 1961 at 42. Jim married
again the following year, to Gretchen Stewart, and they were still
married when Jim died. The obit doesn't mention Kay's stepmother.

SSDI has a Gretchen S. Jordan who died on 12 July 1998 and lived in
Pasadena CA. She was 89.

The radio show was enormously popular. It ran from 1935 to 1959. The
1959 TV version recast the leads for some strange reason and was
cancelled after half a season.

ACK!

Not quite. THat would make her only one year older than her daughter.

I show a DOB for Marian Driscoll Jordan of April 15, 1898 making her
just a few days shy of 62 when she died.

Thank you for backstopping my idiocy. I crossed a wire and took her
wedding date for her birth date.

Thanks for the correction.
