Can anyone confirm the death of Nicholas Clay yesterday? He played "Patrick
Redfern" in EVIL UNDER THE SUN (1982) and "Prince Mdivani" in POOR LITTLE RICH
GIRL (1987). Cause of death: cancer.

Thank you

Can't confirm his death but he was magnificent in "Excalibur" in 1982. A
marvelously atmospheric re-telling of the Arthur legend. Love "Evil under the
Sun." One of my guilty pleasures especially James Mason's droll wit.

Sad to hear he has passed on.

James Mason was in Excalibur? I don't remember him in the movie. Could you be
confusing him with Nicol Williamson who played Merlin?

Nicholas Clay was worth the price of admission to see "Excalibur". My tape
is nearly worn out. He was also in a version of "Lady Chatterly's Lover".
My, both of those on one night are overwhelmingly overwhelming!

I am sad he is gone.....so young, so fine, another waste. What is
happening?

You'll see I said "love Evil Under the Sun" and then I mentioned James Mason.
That's the film he was in. He's marvelous in it.

Well, Terry and I can't diagree on everything. Whenever I do a James
Mason impression, I always start with "I could have sscampered down the
cliff sside, and crushed her neck with thesse powerful handss" or I do
James Mason as Conan the Barbarian: "What is besst in life? To...
crush your enemiess, to drive them before you, to hear the lamentationss
of the women."

One of the great sibilant speakers of our century.

I've read the whole thread, and there is still no confirmation one way
or the other. I hope it isn't true.

I think Terry meant that Mason was in _Evil Under the Sun_ (which he
was).

_Excalibur_ is a great film (and the presence of Cherie Lunghi as
Guinevere is not exactly hard to take, either). Clay (who was Lancelot
in _Excalibur_) was also in the popular _Odyssey_ miniseries (as
Menelaus) a couple of years back. His list of credits can be found at

Sorry, Terry. I can't seem to read correctly today.

I cannot find any confirmation yet of his death. I am holding out hope that it
is a false rumor......

I read this in yesterday's Sun-Herald (Sydney, Australia for those who don't
know). Said he had died aged 52 (?) after a long battle with cancer. I'm
surprised it isn't reported on any British news site I've looked at, so it
may be false.

One of my favorite moments in the film is when the Roddy McDowall character is
being catty towards Mason and he says "why don't you go play with yourself
(pause) excessively." A great moment.

James Mason was marvelous in just about everything he did. Ever see 'The
Shooting Party'?
