Salvatore, 70, & Lucy Basile, 75, Murdered By Jealous Ex-Husband ... 18-Years After Divorce

Salvatore J. Basile, 70, and Lucy Cavallaro Basile, 75, who
had been inseparable since marrying 18 years ago, will be
laid to rest Tuesday miles from each other.
Mr. Basile will be buried in Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in
Cheltenham, next to his first wife, Joan. Mrs. Basile will
be buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Yeadon.
The couple died at Albert Einstein Medical Center after
suffering gunshot wounds last Saturday at their home in the
Oxford Circle area of Northeast Philadelphia.
The couple were shot by Mrs. Basile's ex-husband Mario
Gramaglia, 78, who then killed himself, police said.
"Sal and Lucy shared everything together," said Mrs.
Basile's sister, Alfina. "They were good to each other and
to everyone who knew them."
Friends may visit the couple at 4 p.m. Monday in St. Martin
of Tours Roman Catholic Church, Roosevelt Boulevard and
Cheltenham Avenue. A Funeral Mass will be said for both at 8
p.m. Burial will be Tuesday. A funeral procession will form
at 10 a.m. at the church before heading to Holy Sepulchre
Cemetery and then Holy Cross Cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. Basile were both born and raised in South
Philadelphia. He graduated from Bok High School in 1951
before joining the Army, serving in Europe until 1953. He
married the former Joan Lightcap in 1957, and they had two
children. She died in 1984.
Mrs. Basile married Gramaglia in 1947, and the couple had
two sons before divorcing in 1984.
Her son Ronald said: "My mother had a very hard life until
she married Sal. These last 18 years she has been very, very
happy."
Mrs. Basile is also survived by nieces and nephews. Her son
Butch died in 1974.
Mr. Basile is survived by a son, Michael; a daughter,
Deborah; his mother, Anna; four grandchildren; and two
brothers.
Memorial donations may be sent to St. Martin of Tours School
Tuition Fund, 5450 Roosevelt Blvd., Philadelphia 19124.
Services for Gramaglia have not been set.
