British Ambassador to Cameroon, Gabon & Equatorial Guinea, & High
Commissioner to Bangladesh; died at Sydenham, 6 May, 2003, after a
long illness. He was 83.

Anthony Arthur Golds was born 31 October, 1919, son of Arthur Oswald
Golds by his wife Florence Massey, and educated at King's School,
Macclesfield; & New College, Oxford (scholar).

Career: served in HM Forces (Royal Armoured Corps), 1939-46;
Commonwealth Relations Office, 1948; 1st Secretary, Calcutta & Delhi,
1951-53; Commonwealth Office, 1953-56; Head of Chancery, British
Embassy, Ankara, 1957-59; Karachi, 1959-61; Counsellor in Commonwealth
Office & Foreign Office, 1962-65; Head of Joint Malaysia/Indonesia
Department, 1964-65; Counsellor, HM Embassy, Rome, 1965-70; Ambassador
to the Republic of Cameroon, the Republic of Gabon and the Republic of
Equatorial Guinea, 1970-72; High Commissioner to Bangladesh, 1972-4;
Director, British National Committee, International Chamber of
Commerce, 1977-83; Senior Civilian Instructor, Royal College of
Defence Studies, 1975-76, &c.

Mr Golds, who lived in London, was appointed LVO in 1961, and CMG in
1971.

He married in 1944, Suzanne Macdonald Young, by whom he had a son,
Richard, and a daughter, Laura.

The funeral is at St Stephen's Church, College Rd, London, SE21,
Monday 19 May, 2003.
