Penelope Susan Cowdrey, first wife of cricketer Colin Cowdrey

Penelope Susan Cowdrey, who died 15 April, 2003, was the first wife of
the cricketer peer, Lord Cowdrey of Tonbridge, CBE.

The fornmer Penny Chiesman, she married Cowdrey in 1956. Her husband
played for England 1954-75, and was captain 23 times. In 1975 on
retirement Cowdrey held the record for the most runs and most catches
in Test Matches, &c.

They divorced in 1985, and Cowdrey later married Lady Anne Fitzalan
Howard, eldest daughter of the 16th Duke of Norfolk.

Colin Cowdrey was created a life peer - as Lord Cowdrey of Tonbridge,
and died 4 December, 2000.

Mrs Cowdrey was the mother of Christopher, Jeremy, Carol & Graham.

The only reason that name registers with me and why I remember it is
due to Colin's name being included in the lyrics of the Tim Curry
song, I Do the Rock:
