FEENEY--Eugene M., 88, died March 2, 2013 in Naples, FL, of prostate cancer. Born in New York City on May 22, 1924, Gene attended Xavier High School and College of the Holy Cross, playing football at both. He served in the Navy during World War II, including at the Battle of Okinawa. He became a Jesuit priest, and as director of the Nativity Mission Center on New York's Lower East Side, he launched a middle school for less-privileged children that became a model for more than 60 similar Nativity schools. Gene, who left the priesthood in the late 1970s, held master's degrees in education from New York University and urban affairs from Saint Louis University. A resident of Naples and Bridgehampton, NY, he loved to golf and tell stories and had a rich Irish sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; three brothers, Thomas (Marcia); Bernard (Elizabeth); and James (late Grace); a sister, Eileen Smith (late Edward); 27 nieces and nephews; and stepchildren David, James, Mariah and Kathryn Fee. Gene's first wife, Peggy Cass, died in 1999. A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Monday at St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church in Naples. Donations may be made to New York Nativity at 44 Second Ave., New York, NY, 10003 or www.nynativity.org.

To DINER: It was not Peggy Cass' only marriage. She was married from 1948-1965 to Carl Fisher.
