Aside from the Liz Smith reference, I've not seen other notices or
information of Klaw's death. Can anyone provide further information?
Paula died in late December/early January. Why it took Liz so long to
comment, I don't know. The folks at Movie Star News said she had been ill
"on and off" for the past few months. Paula was rather private about
herself; she didn't seem to want a great deal of publicity. For example,
even though she sold her brother Irving Klaw's classic photos and videos
of Betty Page, she didn't do a lot of interviews or publicity. As
Irving's sister, and having known Betty, she could've made more of a
name for herself. But running the shop was enough. She had no interest in
books either. "Why do a book colleting photos when the book can only sell
for $15 or $20 and people are buying the stills from me at $5 EACH?" She
was a shrewd, tough businesswoman but had a rather warm understanding and
appreciation for her customers, whatever their particular needs were
(whether collecting Betty Page or Madonna, Steve Reeves or Curly Howard,
etc. etc.) Especially, as she said, at five bucks apiece!
