I was rather thrilled to have at least a touch of fame found in my first
cemetery search. I never realized that Daniel Boone was from this area. If
anyone knows any history on any of these folks I'd love it if you'd share
the info.

Susan Boone (daughter of Moses and Hannah Boone) was the great-niece
of Daniel Boone. She was married to William Rissler. Also, Daniel
Boone was married to Rebecca Ann Bryan, not "Malinda." Plus, Phoebe
Rissler was the daughter of Susan Boone Rissler.

I know the tombstone says she was the sister of Daniel Boone, but his
sisters were, Sarah, Elizabeth, Mary and Hannah. Daniel Boone died in
1825 ... and Susan Boone Rissler was born in 1802. He would have been
68 when his baby sister was born ... Not to mention her father would
have been 106 at her birth (Boone's father died in 1765).
Daniel Boone's brothers were, Israel, Samuel, Jonathan, George,
Edward, Nathaniel and Squire.

Squire Boone had five children; Johnathan, Moses, Isaiah, Sarah and
Enoch.

He was from Pennsylvania (10/22/1734) ... and died in Missouri
(9/26/1820). Both Boone and his wife were buried in Missouri but were
later reinterred in Kentucky (or so the story goes).

There is not a lot of evidence that Boone was ever in Indiana. His
brother, Squire, settled there, and there are conflicting reports on
sites as to Daniel exploring the area with him.
Anyway, I hope those links help.
Hey Giselle,
I really don't have anything to add regarding Susan Boone Rissler,
but I do have some info on another sister, Hannah, who was born in Perks
Co. Pa., and died in Monroe Co. Ky., at the home of he son, Daniel Boone
Pennington. She was married twice, first to John Stewart, and after his
death she married Richard Pennington. I do have some Kentucky info
regarding Daniel Boone as well. One of the early churches formed here in
Kentucky was called 'Howard's Creek Church' and was located in Clark
County, Kentucky. Daniel Boone attended this church occasionally, and
eventually Squire Jr., Samuel and Mary Boone were all baptized and
joined this church. in 1790, the church's name was changed to
'Providence', and this church is were the Old Regular Baptists and the
Separate Baptists here in Kentucky came together, dropped their former
appellations, and assumed the title 'United Baptist' in 1801. The church
was passed on the the 'Negro Baptists' in 1870, and was restored after
slight fire damage in 1949. To the best of my knowledge, this church
building still stands to this day.

Well son-of-a-gun... Why does the tombstone say she was his sister?? How
odd. And they went through all the trouble or engraving those small stones
with the wrong info, too? hmmm.. very strange.
I *am* going to button-hole the caretaker. I'm making it my mission.

You wouldn't know where the Squire Boone Cave is, would you?

Fantastic help! I love Usenet. Through out a question and look what you
get back. :)
I'm going to steal your post to send to an email list I'm on, if you don't
mind. Something tells me you might already be on the list, though, so feel
free to post it yourself first.
THANKS!

No, but a month ago I was visiting cemeteries in Indiana (Grant
County). One from the War of 1812 (Mississinewa), an Indian burial
ground (Meshingomesia Indian Cemetery) and Park Cemetery (James Dean's
headstone). Anyway, why did I think you lived in Buffalo?
> Are you a taphophile, too?
That's such an ugly word ... And how was I supposed to know she was
only 8?
Oh ... you meant ...
Yes, of course. I live for the dead and the dying.

Yeah. I would *love* to hear this story. I saw that photo of Susan
Boone's grave a few years ago. At the time, I didn't know if he had a
sister named Susan, but I knew his wife's name was Rebecca, not
"Malinda." So I started researching the Boone family. The more I
looked ... the more bizarre it got.

A little bit south of Corydon, Indiana ... Take 135.

No, go ahead. Someone might be able to straighten the Susan
Boone/Malinda Boone thing out.

Nope. The only death list I'm on ... is ... a bit different.

No problem. I'm a wonderful person ... Just ask anyone here ...

Here is a pretty comprehensive site that tells about the Boone family and
their burial places.:
http://www.soltfamily.com/descendants_of_squire_boone.htm
Squire & Sarah are buried in Mocksville, NC at an old graveyard next to
the Wal-Mart and Food Lion at Squire Boone Plaza.
