I am sad to report the death of an old friend of mine, actor Linden Chiles,
who was a prominent guest star in numerous TV series mainly in the 1960s and
'70s.

He played the father in the series "James at 15", and had a recurring role
in "Banacek." If you see his face, you will instantly recognize him, and he
had a very distinctive voice, but it's always been hard to point him out to
people any other way.

Linden turned 80 in March and was in good health after a bout with prostate
cancer. His death came after an accident while working on the roof of his
California home, which is very typical of Linden's hands-on approach to
everything in life.

There has been no official obituary reported, so you can change this title
to "unconfirmed" if you want, but maybe I've finally been accepted here as a
person whose word you can believe, after my recent notice of the passing of
my friend, the songwriter Alan O'Day, which was a conduit to learning that
Ray Arthur and I had a common interest.

The news of Linden's passing is reported by the woman in his life on a
Facebook personality page titled :"Linden Chiles". I have been in private
contact with her, and his friends have been notified of an upcoming memorial
service.

Linden led a very unconventional life and was basically "an old hippie." He
left the acting business for a while to live in a commune before returning
to acting, and nothing in any of his acting roles would have ever hinted at
how unique he was.

He died at his home on May 15th.

Yep I knew the name and when I saw his picture I recognized him
immediately. I remember him in many roles. So very sorry for your loss
Diane. You've had a rough go of it lately.

regards, Sarah

Thank you, Sarah. It was tough to find out the way Linden died. I'd been out
of touch with him for the last several years; my fault-- I owed him a
letter...and I had kept his last one out so I'd remember to answer him.
:-( Unfortunately, with your posting a reply, it will just fuel the fire
among some of the folks here that you and I are the same person....But maybe
they now finally realize that I'm real. And I'm one of those weirdos who
have experienced that deaths come in threes, and I am very uneasy thinking
of three possible people in the business that I know and love who could be
the third for me. :-(

Thanks, Diane.
I immediately recognized his name. He was an actor beyond
the typical "that guy" (which I usually reserve for the actor who
can portray a villain every year in the same series).

I think there's a role on imdB that almost everyone can recognize:

Excellent Facebook page.
