Their son, Doug Meredith and his wife Reva were friends and neighbours
of mine in Malibu and we are still friends and neighbours here in New
Zealand 45+ years later.
Doug's wife, Reva, is the sister of actor Gene Barry. So it wasn't
that Margaret played various roles on Burke's Law as well as other
roles over the years.
Margaret was a strikingly beautiful lady who had great dignity and
charm. She last visited New Zealand with her daughter (Doug's
step-sister) Christmas before last and although she was in her
late-eighties and her hearing was getting a bit dodgy, she was as
beautiful and as charming as ever.
She celebrated her 90th birthday on 6 January and appeared in good
health, but early last week, Doug got a phone call telling him that
his mother had taken ill and was becoming very weak. He flew over the
following day and, though Margaret was allowed to come home from
hospital, and was being cared for by a live-in nurse, she passed away
this morning with her family at her bedside.
May she rest in peace and may God bless and comfort her family and
many friends.

Margaret was a friend of mine, a longtime member of the theatre company to
which I belong, Theatre West. We did at least one play together, C.P.
Taylor's GOOD, in which I played an S.S. officer and she the mother of the
good man of the title (who goes from being good to outlining the Final
Solution). We also appeared in a movie or two together.
Margaret was elegant and despite being a native, I think, of Dallas, gave
the impression of being British upper class or at least Beacon Hill.
A memorial service will be held at Theatre West, 3333 Cahuenga Blvd. West,
at 3 p.m. on Thursday, March 9. (That's in L.A., near Universal City.)

Small world, no?
Isn't it ...
I made a mistake with Margaret's age. She was 91on 6 January and she
and her daughter (Doug's half-sister) were over here for Christmas in
2003 not 2004. A lovely lady ... and I do mean *lady*.
The family *was* from Dallas, although you'd never detect their Texan
roots from either Margaret's or Doug's accents.
