This list has been updated to reflect the death of Doug Harvey, formerly
at position #4..

There are currently 71 living members of the Hall of Fame. This includes
63 players, five managers, and three executives. (Most managers were
former players and many players later become managers, but they are
usually voted into the Hall as one or the other, as their career merits).

Of the 63 players, 60 were voted in by the baseball writers association,
which has the primary responsibility for selecting which players will be
in the Hall of Fame. Players who are no longer under consideration by the
baseball writers can be voted in by the veterans committee - known since
2011 as the "historical overview committee." (It is generally considered
more prestigious to be inducted by the baseball writers, rather than
through the veterans committee's "back door.")

The veterans committee/historical overview committee is also responsible
for inducting non-players, including managers, executives, and umpires.

The list below gives each living Hall member, in order of date of birth.
It also indicates how each member was inducted. The absence of a
designation means "player inducted by the baseball writers."

When do you include the new HoFers? When they are elected, or after the induction ceremony. If the former, you need to add Alan Trammell and Jack Morris. And next week...??? (Chipper for sure, likely Thome, probably Hoffman and perhaps Vlad and another.)

I was watching a show on the MLB Network the other day, where they were talking about this site where they are doing early canvassing of the voters, HOFtrackerlive:

https://onedrive.live.com/view.aspx?resid=F2E5D8FC5199DFAF!8063&ithint=file,xlsx&app=Excel&authkey=!AAAsz3uDsmqy_Vw

This site gets in touch with the voters and asks them who they voted for. According to the voting so far, and they've gotten nearly 200 of the HOF voters (46 percent of the voters) to list their ballot choices. According to this site, Chipper Jones, Jim Thome and Vlad Guerrero are both well over 90 percent, both are most likely shoo-ins. Also, at this point, both Trevor Hoffman and Edgar Martinez are both over 75 percent, so if they both hold, they're going to get in. Mike Mussina is over 70 percent, so he's close. Curt Schilling is at 65 percent, as is Bonds and Clemens, so they are iffy.

Usually after the BBWAA elections. I figure if the HOC inductees had to
wait all those extra years to be chosen, they can wait an extra month to
be added to my list.

With two and a half hours before the new members for the Baseball Hall of Fame are announced, I thought I would give the up to date numbers from the HOF Tracker site, where they contact HOF voters to ask who they have voted for. After getting feedback from 57 percent of the voters, 243 in all, Chipper Jones is showing up on 98 percent of ballots, Vladimir Guererro is showing up on 95 percent of ballots, Jim Thome 93 percent, Trevor Hoffman 79 percent, Edgar Martinez 77 percent, Mike Mussina 70, Bonds and Clemens 64 and Curt Schilling 60. Seventy five percent is the magic number to get inducted.
