Holland Kwartet. Daarvoor verdiende Duyn zijn geld als
constructiebankwerker.
Hey You Love
raak met How do you do en Hello A. In maart 1974 vertegenwoordigden
Mouth & MacNeal Nederland op het Eurovisie Songfestival. Zij behaalden
Or was it some OTHER Top 20 hit that a I-assumed-they-were-American duo
named Mouth & McNeal had a few decades ago?

Okay ... After reading it in English ... maybe my Dutch isn't what it
used to be ...
... or maybe I just used:
God that's funny.

(They also charted with the followup single, a cover of "Devil With a

Funny. Reminds me of a book in my parents' library which was a send-up
of "Dutchlish", various fairy tales (if I remember correctly) told in
fractured Dutch/English like "From the well Jack and Jill upgekomen
met een pail water. Jack is down gefallen en met the kroon gebroken".
All I can remember was that it was orange and illustrated.
Any old timers remember that book?
Anyway, just to practice my Dutch and exercise my van Dale
Dutch/English English/Dutch dictionary CD, here's my attempt at a
translation:
Singer Willem Duyn (67) Dead
Published: 4 december 2004 19:07
ROSWINKEL - The singer Willem Duyn has died at age 67 Friday/Saturday
night his family has announced. Duyn suffered cardiac arrest and died
on the way to the hospital.
The substantial, bearded singer was known as Big Mouth of the duo
Mouth and McNeal. He began his career in 1960 as a drummer for the
group Holland Kwartet. Previously, Duyn made his living as a
construction worker.
Hey You Love
In 1971 he partnered with Maggie McNeal from Krabbendam. The duo
scored a top five hit with Hey You Love. Later, they had hits with How
Do You Do and Hello A. In March 1974, Mouth and McNeal represented the
Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Festival. They reached third place
with the song, Ik Zie Een Star (I See a Star).
The number was a big hit and remained on the Hit Parade for fourteen
weeks. In spite of the duo's enormous success, Maggie was replaced by
Little Eve, the stage name of Ingrid Kup who Duyn had married.
Uncle
In May 1975, Big Mouth & Little Eve had a hit with Uncle which was an
immediate success. But, from that point on, Duyn's career went
downhill. His carnival-style songs foundered in the ratings. In 1979,
Duyn did score another hit under his real name with the autobiographic
number Willem.
Then, in 1992, the singer Bennie Jolink of the rock band Normaal,
sidelined by an automobile accident, named Duyn as his temporary
replacement. Using the stage name Willem Dut, Normaal produced a hit
with the single Woenderbaar.
Recently, Duyn performed primarily in community centers, pubs, and
fairs. He had no more national successes. He lived unil his death in
Roswinkel in the (province of) Drenthe.

And you will say na na na na

And you will think na na na na
Hey, that's what I'm livin' for
Once I said I wanted you
And I remember why
I often wonder if it's true
You still can make me cry
I only know it's long ago
You said, "I love you" too
But I've got one solution
That we're gonna start anew
How do you do, uh huh
I though when I na na na na
Just me and you
And then we can na na na na
Just like before
And you will say na na na na
Please give me more

Thanks. Your translation seems accurate.
I don't know about Mac, but Katie still works as a backing singer - she was on
the last Roger Waters tour. Too bad she couldn't get him to add "Chirpy Chirpy
Cheep Cheep" to the set list.
